Meet the "Hanks" of Annie Hanks
Katherine Hanks is an interdisciplinary artist based in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. Her work is a part of the permanent Photographic History Collection at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History and has been featured in Where Women Create and City Scope Magazine.
Katherine’s earliest memories were set against a limestone canyon along the emerald green Frio River in the Texas hill country. This closeness to wilderness awakened in her a hunger for the sacred and the drive to create.
Reflecting upon her years running Annie Hanks, Katherine smiles, "I am proud of the work that Stephanie and I produced together and of the business we created. The distinctive forms and glazes that lovingly became known by our community as 'Annie Hanks pieces' will inform my artistic style and process for years to come."
Katherine’s currently focusing on a new body of work inspired by her identity as mother, her intimate connection to landscape, and her pursuit of authenticity.
